Violette

So today was probably the last lovely day we'll have in Illinois for a very long time, so after working around the house all day, my husband and I finally took off for a brief drive through the cornfields in our convertible, ending up at our local wine shop. Now, we may live in Central Illinois, but thank God we have a decent wine store (our supermarkets aren't bad, either). So we stopped in to get a bottle of wine for our dinner this evening. As usual, they were happy to help us not only with the wine but with our pre-dinner cocktail, which is pretty exciting and I just had to share:
1 1/2 oz Creme de Violette
2 oz Blenheim Bay Premium Gin (typically I drink only Hendricks but the wine guy swore by this New Zealand gin...and it was only $14.99!)
a twist of orange

It's a beautiful violet color and...delicious.

Oh how divine- that sounds good right now and it is only 7 in the morning where I am!

It IS pretty. Does it taste like violets? What do violets taste like? I don't think I would mix Hendrick's with anything. Taking a tip from Kingsley Amis I am now drinking it on ice. People freak out when you order gin on the rocks!

Amazing - i will have to copy this cocktail at Christmas time. Apart from the colour which is divine it sounds scrumptuous. Thank you for your lovely comments on French Essence xv.

I just read about this drink the other day (ok I was reading a bar recipe book) and it intrigued me. Beautiful photo. :)

Hmm ... sounds intriguing ... I'm thinking I need to branch out from wine and this could be a good place to start.
